STARTING FORM SCRATCH

How Raíces Cubanas Grew From a Blank Canvas to a Brand Portfolio

When we first connected with Raíces Cubanas, there was almost nothing to build on besides a name. But that name carried weight. Raíces Cubanas comes from a factory in Danlí, Honduras that, since its founding in 2003, has quietly built a reputation for producing some of the best hand-rolled cigars in the world for other brands, including notable names like Alec Bradley, Illusione and Viaje.

What the world didn’t know then was that this factory would build something uniquely its own. Beginning in late 2024, Raíces Cubanas expanded beyond being a manufacturer for others to launching its own portfolio of cigars. The company introduced four distinct lines, including Clásico, GRD3, Liga de Reyes, and C5 Black, along with a variety of sizes and flavor profiles crafted from Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos.

Starting with a name and blank pages, we helped shape how the world sees Raíces Cubanas. We built the logo, defined the packaging, and crafted the design systems that give each brand within the portfolio its own identity while still feeling unified. From the bands and labels to the boxes and bands, everything was conceived with intention and purpose. Every visual touchpoint was created from scratch, so what you see online and in stores reflects a coherent and thoughtful brand strategy.

We also shot every photo you see on the website and in promotional materials. Rather than relying on stock imagery, we orchestrated full brand photography shoots to produce visuals that feel honest and elevated. Whether it is product stills that showcase tobacco texture and box detail or lifestyle images that convey the experience of the smoke, the imagery was shaped around the identity we built together.

Building four unique brands under the Raíces Cubanas umbrella was both a creative challenge and an opportunity. Each line’s packaging and labels were designed to reflect who that cigar is for. From approachable smokes to richer, more complex blends, our work ensured each line was positioned with clarity and distinction. And because we built the visual systems, we set Raíces Cubanas up with assets that can grow, adapt, and extend into the future.

In a crowded cigar market, quality alone is not enough. Raíces Cubanas had the craftsmanship and tobacco expertise. What they needed was a visual language that matched their tobacco’s reputation. Today, the brand has presence and relevance because the packaging, photography, and identity tools we created give the cigars context and personality when they are presented to the world.

The journey from blank canvas to fully realized brand portfolio is one that required collaboration, vision, and rigorous execution. Raíces Cubanas now stands as an example of what is possible when heritage, quality, and design come together. And every piece of that journey was crafted with intention, starting from scratch and built with purpose.
